King Faisal School Celebrates Awareness on the World Mental Health Day
With the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health, King Faisal School has organized a health educational lecture entitle: “Psychological Challenges of Adolescents and How to Deal with Them” presented by Dr. Mowaffaq Al-Aithan, a Consultant Clinical Psychologist; on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019. This event was coinciding with the World Mental Health Day with a view toward shining a light on effective actions and recommendations to reduce risk of the prevalence of mental health disorders. Also, to take a leadership role in our community-based education and awareness-raising and encourage people to get the necessary health care or even treatment for those with mental illness due to fear of community perceptions which in turn leads to negative physical and mental problems. Studies have also shown that 20% of children and adolescents in the world suffer from psychological disorders. Psychiatric disorders are one of the most important risk factors for other diseases, such as: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and heart disease …, etc. Poor mental health is also associated to rapid social changes. At the end of the lecture, all students and attendees were allowed to ask questions and answer them adequately.
